| | | | Suzuki LS650 Savage and Sidecar.
Matt black, well some of it is satin, but mostly matt, rat look sidecar outfit.
Where should I start, you either like this sort of thing or wonder why the hell anyone would do this to a bike. Certainly it's not a bike for polishers, hanging a few custom chrome trinkets on it really will not help. This Suzuki would look very much at home at Dirkquake or maybe on the set of a dystopian post apocalyptic film. If that's your thing read on.
It's been hard tailed using the tried and tested rat bike method of welding in heavy steel bars where the shocks where once. The same has been done to the sidecar, So no rear suspension and no sidecar suspension. Comfort is provided by the rubber sprung saddle, you wouldn't want to ride in across a ploughed field, but it is acceptably comfortable on normal roads. On the plus side there is no body roll and it corners nice and flat, but then it would with no suspension.
It's chain drive, which seems odd as most of these LS 650s are belt, Good heavy duty chain so that's a plus and it means you can mess with the gearing if you so desire. At the moment first feel just a little high, but once moving the engine pulls this gearing very well making for a relaxed cruising speed of 60 mph.
Like all these LS 650 it's makes a noise like the world is going to end when the starter is pressed, but as soon as it fires it settles to a healthy rumble and steady tick over once warmed up. Talking of noise, the pipe is noisy, it passed the last few MOTs with this fitted, but you are never going to creep up of people with this bike. It produces a healthy bark when the throttle is opened up. Some may feel it's anti social, but they probably ride electric bicycles and will not be reading this anyway.
The sidecar is all steel and Russian, made by IZH. The front slides forward so if you have friends that share your great taste in motorcycles they will be able to hop in and out easily. It really needs a new tonneau cover, and the old threadbare one will come with the bike as a pattern.
Although it looks like it's just been dragged out of a nightmare you may have had about the future of civilisation it actually goes nicely and has just has a good check over including new battery and an oil change.
Speedo is in KMs and it has 26000 (about 16000 miles) showing, an MOT history check suggests it is correct, but who knows.
Current MOT runs out 2nd June 2018.
