We are proud to offer for sale this lovely, matching numbers example of the iconic and much sought after Aston Martin V8 Series 3 in very rare original left hand drive layout.
The car was originally exported and first registered in Japan and has more recently been residing in California/Florida. Due to the fact the Aston has only been used in hot climates it means the chassis and body on this V8 are in exceptional shape.
However, it is in need of some "fettling" to be enjoyed at it's best and this is reflected in the price. A member of our workshop team will be happy to discuss our recommendations and the various options open to the new owner on the number below.
In August, 1973 a “New Aston Martin V8” was unveiled to the press at the West End showrooms of Hexagon Motors. This car, had the important difference that the Bosch fuel injection (which, it was said, presented problems when the engine needed to be modified to comply with U.S. emission control regulations) was replaced by four twin – choke downdraught Weber carburettors.
The performance of the V8 at low speeds became notably smoother, with greater flexibility. The bulge on the bonnet had to be deepened slightly and it was continued, as a low bulge, to the trailing edge. At the opposite end of the car the extractor ventilation louvres behind the rear window were replaced by a shallow lip adjacent to the boot lid.
Several other modifications were introduced: water, oil and automatic transmission cooling were all improved; optional back axle ratios were offered for manual and automatic transmissions respectively; a new insulating material was used for the engine bulkhead and under the bonnet. There are detailed improvements inside the car, revised front seats; passenger door locked, electrically, from the driver’s side; revised switches: fuses in glove pocket; larger ashtray; fuel tank redesigned to increase the luggage space.
