This car was a special build by the factory for the then Managing Director Michael Leather to compete in international motor sport events, as well as being a road car. It has a lightweight body with large rear wheel arches, LSD rear axle etc. The car was used by Leather at events in Belgium and France.
It would appear that the world of motorsport was not really Leathers forte, and the car was sold to Gilberns London dealership of Ace Motors. They in turn asked the owners club founding member Martin Ingall to run the car in hill climb events.
There is a write up about its 1973 outing at Wiscombe in the book Gilberns at Wiscombe.
An awful lot of work has been done on the car, and there is obviously more to do. It has recently been fitted with a new FIA/MSA rear cage by Andy Robinson, which has full certification.
Most parts are with the car as to complete the restoration, including new front and rear screens please call for further details.
The Owners club provide a massive back up spares/technical wise. Delivery of the car can be arranged.
