The Bonkers Collection are proud to present this exceptional, time warp 1981 Ford Fiesta Supersport
The Fiesta Supersport was a limited-edition model that went into production in July 1980. Ford used the 1300 Sport as a base and extras from the ‘series X’ accessories catalogue. The Fiesta kept the 66hp, 1300cc engine but with a wider track and with suspension designed by Fords SVE (special Vehicle Engineering).
Arguably the most sought after and highly prized of all the MK1 Ford Fiestas. The Supersports were produced for the UK market and ran until 3000 cars were built. Fords marketing slogan was ‘The car that looks as good as it feels as good as it drives’.
You had the choice of two trim options, a red (Savannah) and black (Carla) chequered pattern that was only used on this model.
The Supersports were available in only four colours, Black, Diamond white, Stratos silver and Sunburst red. With the series X body kit which comprised of wheel arch extensions, a lower boot spoiler and a front splitter as well the popular 13” RS 4-spoke wheels. The Supersport were also fitted with a special body side stripe tape which was available in either red or grey with a black window surround.
This genuine MK1 Supersport is a true survivor and a time warp car that still retains 85-90% of the original factory applied paintwork, the shell is un-welded with all its factory fitted panels. Finished in original colour diamond white in excellent condition for its age.
Date stamping in all the hidden areas are still visible. Incredibly still wearing the factory graphics. All the glass is original, and the rubbers are still supple and free from cracking or deterioration. The floor pan is immaculate with the original spare wheel and Pirelli P6 tyre residing in the boot.
The interior is time warped and completely original, with savanna and Carla fabric that is showing little wear. The dashboard is completely crack free and undamaged looking like new. The centre console houses an original RST 21P radio and clock. The original carpet shows very little sign of wear. There are no marks or tears in the head lining and door cards. All the switches, buttons and gauges still illuminate and perfect working order.
The untouched engine bay is home to the correct 1300 Kent crossflow engine. The electronic choke has been replaced by a manual one. The engine starts first time and runs exceptionally well and smooth. The clutch feels good and moves though the gears smoothly and with ease.
The 13” RS wheels are still wrapped in Pirelli P6 tyres. Although just due to the age we advise that these tyres are no longer road worthy. Four new tyres will be fitted before delivering to its new owner.
MOT certificates from 1984, which shows some time off the road from 1999 till 2007. The original Currie Motors dealership wallet that holds an operating guide and owner’s manual is present together with its spare key. This example has been the prised position of one of the larges Ford RS collections in the UK. Stored in a temperature controlled environment thought this time. Examples of this quality are very rarely do come to the market, so this you’re your opportunity to own one of the very and best Fiesta Supersports in the UK.
We think it will be hard to find such an original example. With just over 71,000 miles on the clock.
