This Bentley Turbo R has been delivered new on March 27, 1992 to a well known Company in Milano from Achilli Motors, the most important official Bentley and Rolls-Royce dealer in Italy at that time.
The Turbo R was used as representative car and was driven from the personal chauffeur of the Company's President.
After the President sadly disappeared following a serious disease, the car was putted in the name of the widow and later in the name of a Company belonging to the son-in-law.
The Turbo R still has the original first registration plates (Mi) and documents (Libretto di Circolazione and Foglio Complementare).
Furthermore, it is ASI - Automotoclub Storico Italiano - and FIVA - Federation Internationale Voiture Ancienne - registered.
The car has been regularly driven just to be maintained in full operational efficiency. The widow was emotionally involved with this Bentley Turbo R as it was a souvenir of her husband. She was very fussy about everything concerning this car.
All the little grapples for getting off the wheels' exterior protection, the Bentley approved Castrol green oil for hydraulic circuit are with the car. Every item originally delivered with the car is still there, nothing is missing.

THE MODEL - HISTORY
All Bentley Turbo R have been equipped precisely since 1992 with the new 4 speed automatic gearbox GM 4L80-E having "normal", "sport" and "manual" operations. The new gearbox together with some important improvements in the chassis and suspensions - the Active Ride Suspensions - made the Turbo R really high performance and dynamic, very enjoyable to drive in spite of its big size and respectable weight.
The Turbo R is rightly considered the first REAL Bentley of modern era, the model that did revitalise the Bentley Brand which was eclipsed from Rolls-Royce - the Bentley's owner - upon that time.
Bentley gained strong identity, a real own personality with the Turbo R which finally was a Bentley and no more just a Rolls-Royce with a Bentley badge.

The Bentley Turbo R is equipped with the famous 8V 6, 75 cc Rolls-Royce re-engineered and re-worked from Bentley. This engine is equipped with Bosch K Motronic injection and a big Garrett AiResearch type T04B turbo with Intercooler.
Bentley did never officially disclosed the real power - estimated at not less than 330 HP - nor the torque - estimated at not less than 600 NM -. This was traditional at Rolls-Royce/ Bentley.

The numbers are quite the same obtained for Mercedes 560 SEL W126, 500 SE W140 and BMW 750i. But there is a big difference: those cars weigh 600, 250 and 500 kg less respectively ...!

The Turbo R is the most important model certainly, the one that had the best sales' numbers in the era when Bentley was owned from Rolls-Royce.
It has been the model that restored the real Bentley glory and tradition, transforming the Mulsanne Turbo in a really high performance car having a very serious, dynamic and enjoyable road holding - the R means Road Holding -.
The famous USA magazine Motor Trend wrote about the Turbo R "the first Bentley in decades deserving its famous name" after their road test in 1989.
The Turbo R was in production since 1985 to 1998 in short and long wheelbase versions. The very best model has been the 1992/ 1993 one probably as it was the right balance between "old tradition" and "more modernity": it had all modern equipment with the old best traditional look - I. e. the gearshift behind the steering wheel, the not encapsulated engine, etc -..

The Bentley's generation to whom the Turbo R belongs has been the last totally manufactured by hands according to the best traditional English school. It is the last authentic Bentley.
When you turn the ignition key on the left side of the steering wheel - like on the Porsche 911 -, the mighty V8 wakes up. The sound is just beautiful, quiet, deep, loud and like distant. You immediately feel it is very serious. An engine that goes steady, perfect for an Automobile like the Turbo R.
This Turbo R is not a beautiful car, it is much more: an Elegant Automobile owning a tremendous charm.    

THE BODYWORK   
This pristine condition Bentley Turbo R is totally original, magnificently preserved.
It is accident free.
It has been professionally repainted some years ago because of a vandalism's act on the paint. The paint is very high quality, flawless and has the right brightness. All the interior parts - engine bay, doors, front and rear hoods, trunk - are in original paint (ie. never repainted)..
It is totally rust free.
The floor is in as new conditions.
The undercarriage, the archwheels are in perfect condition, the panels fitting and alignment are perfect, the panel-gaps like they must be, the doors, engine and rear hoods open and close perfectly without any thread. All the original chrome, front and rear bumpers are in perfect condition.
All the rubber and plastic parts are in perfect condition.
All the details are correct and all the lights, front and rear, are in perfect conditions.   
The original alloy wheels are in like new conditions.

INTERIOR
The interior is in mint condition, totally original, untouched, perfectly preserved, really exceptional. Outstanding!
They are an highest level craftsmanship masterpiece, profusion of finest leather and most precious woods: what a beauty, what a refined quality!
Just to step down in this elegant ambiance is an unparalleled pleasure.

The sense of smell, the vision, the touch are pampered in this order. A great experience.
The seats' leather has no signs of wear and is soft as it must be.
The dashboard is like new.
The precious wood inserts are like new.
The steering wheel is in perfect conditions.
The interior leather headliner is like new.
Everything works as it must. The delightful and powerful two-level HVAC system accompanied from its low-key symphony of machinery - quiet whirring and clicking - allows to have the face lovingly brushed from a fresh breeze while the feet are flushed with hot air and gives everyone a unique luxury and voluptuous feeling.
The organ-stop dashboard vent controls work just as one would expect, slamming home with the kind of mechanical solidity which simply does not exist in a mere luxury car.
The front seats are electrically operated and offer the possibility of memorising four positions. Furthermore they are heated and have lumbar regulations.
The interior in no ways shows it is 25 years old, even when you look at details. If you do not know you cannot say it. And if you know you can hardly believe it.
It is clear that the car has never been exposed to the sun nor rain or bad weather long time during and has always been garaged.
The trunk is in perfect conditions, totally original and untouched, and nothing is missing.
It is clear that the car has been cared of at highest possible level.

ENGINE and TRANSMISSION
The engine bay and the legendary 6. 750 CC V8 are perfectly clean, totally original, in mint conditions.
The 92/ 93 MY engine has been the last not encapsulated. This is a great luck indeed because the engine is really beautiful, magnificently finished. Spectacular ...
Everything is as must be, beautiful, tidy, dry, without any leak's trace - this is substantial as oil and fluid leaks are quite ordinary on these cars -.
All the original plates and stickers are where they must be. No one is missing.
All the stamped numbers - s/ n, engine, ... - are original and where they must be.
The car is Matching Numbers - engine, gearbox, etc - obviously.
Everything works perfectly.
The original mileage is 46. 600 kms only, corresponding to 1. 769 kms/ year only!
The V8 6, 75 litres engine is very reliable and robust. It is reputed for being "bulletproof", if carefully used and regularly serviced - you just need to wait the oil is at the right temperature before going-up in the revs, to leave it running at least one minute before cutting off the ignition after an off town travel; it is very important to well lubricate and cool the turbocharger and to utilise one of the high quality oils indicated from Bentley.
These engines will easily see over 300. 000 kms before requiring any major freshening work and that is usually limited to a top end overhaul (namely valve guides and seals)..
The same is for the whole mechanic, really unbreakable when properly respected.
This turbo R drives perfectly, it is a real pleasure to drive it.
The engine has available a phenomenal torque since engine idle speed. Just a light pressure on the accelerator makes the car moving forward very quickly, with surprising force and easy for a car of such size and weight.
The engine is well assisted from the excellent 4 speed automatic gearbox which is smooth, quick, without any important slipping of the torque converter when passing-up the gears, particularly in Sport and Manual operations.
The Turbo R is very fast in standing still acceleration as well as in restart - which is really phenomenal using kick-down -.
The gear ratios are quite long: the Turbo R is already over 160 km/ h at 2. 500 revs in fourth gear. When changing-up the gears at those revs the Turbo R leave behind her all the traffic totally effortless. Impressive! Are you thinking "fly over traffic" ...
The whole of engine/ gearbox is really impressive, it makes the Turbo R a true "steel hand in a velvet glove".
The 4 speed automatic gearbox General Motors 4L80-E works as it must/ perfectly in all three normal, manual and sport modes. The transmission is quicker and more reactive in sport mode obviously - the selection of sport mode is made through the Sport mode selection switch in the centre console -. 
The gearbox can be used also in totally manual mode - in. this case the torque converter is cutted off -. This mode is primarily provided for driving in adverse conditions where poor tyre grip prevails (on snow, ice, loose surfaces, etc). The manual mode is selected pressing the switch indicated by a snowflake symbol, situated on centre console.
The gearbox is operated with the traditional and famous zero-effort electro-hydraulic column selector that is just behind the steering wheel on the right side. Later Bentley had overfly sporting console-mount shifters, but this old school selector has lot more of charm and class. 
The gear selector operates also the cruise-control.
One more classy detail: when moving the gear selector from P to D or R the hand-brake is automatically switched off.

SUSPENSIONS and STEERING
The suspensions and the steering work perfectly without any backlash or noise.
Everything is perfectly dry, there are no leaks at all.
The Active Ride Suspension system which operates the suspensions works perfectly.
The rear suspension are hydraulic self-levelling.
The comfort is perfect on every kind of road surface, even the worst.
The road handling is really exceptional for such a big and heavy car.
The Bentley engineers of that time have performed an exceptional work with the Turbo R. The sincere, very good and sure road holding at high speed is a nice surprise indeed, you really could not imagine it when you look at the car and you don't know her. This Turbo R gives you great driving pleasure..

ALLOY WHEELS, TYRES and BRAKES.
The original and beautiful alloy wheels make the Turbo R aesthetically perfect. They are in pristine conditions with no defects.
The four tyres Avon Turbospeed 255/ 65 VR15 - specific for Turbo R - have been changed on July 2014 at 42. 391 kms and have travelled just a very modest 4. 200 kms since.
The brakes work perfectly as well as the ABS.
The braking is responsive, powerful, tough, reliable in any condition, also under big and prolonged effort.
The brake circuit has been purged, checked and tested, the fluid and the front brake pads changed on February 2017 when the big annual service has been done at official Bentley workshop in Milano - the invoice is with the car.
Just a few words about the Hydraulic System who operates the brakes and the self-levelling suspensions. This is the usual thing that scares most of people. They hear horror stories of ignorant mechanics putting DOT4 brake fluid in the system, which would then necessitate a very expensive overhaul. The Hydraulic System is very reliable. But ONLY the Castrol green LHM fluid must be used.

The seating position can best be described as "throne like", the combination of high seat and low beltline not entirely unlike that of a first-generation Range Rover. In countries mostly without SUVs and pickups, such as in 90s, the Bentley driver would find himself looking down on virtually all traffic, literally and figuratively.

The Bentley Turbo R is an Elegant Automobile for elegant, classy people which have personality ... True Elegance and Class, not fashion.
Probably the most satisfying aspect of the Turbo R is its unrelenting authenticity. All the details are meticulously and elegantly handled. The polished-wood door caps have three separate types of wood cut into a flawless veneer pattern.
The dashboard is leather, but the stitching is deliberately hidden where a modern car would flaunt its seams. There is no reason to show off the leather dash; a Bentley owner assumes that his motorcar possesses the finest possible dashboard trim and does not need to demonstrate it to others with exposed stitching.
Everywhere you look, there is authentic, hand-built excellence.
The modern models make a solid attempt at recreating the traditional Bentley interior, but there is a big difference between imitation and reality. This is the real thing, not fashion.
There is simply no feeling in the world to compare with the sensation of operating a proper, handbuilt Bentley Turbo R.
As nice as those modern VW/ Audi-in-Bentley-costumes are, however they are not the real thing.
