This matching numbers car has been in a private collection for the last 37 years, in which time it was driven less than 20 times, with the last road usage in 1993.
Having been registered in California and New Mexico since initial sale, it remains in very good, dry condition, both body and chassis wise.
Body & Glass:
The fibreglass body is in good condition with very little to reveal it’s 50 year history. Originally white, the vehicle was repainted in the 1970s and has held up well. The glass is also in good condition.
The left-hand door was converted to ‘removable window’, but this can easily be switched back after sourcing a replacement.
The doors, hood and engine cover open and close easily, retaining their panel gaps well.
The original 697-04/0310 unit remains in the vehicle and has never been rebuilt.
It starts, idles and pulls well. An engine compression test was made in July 2017 and showed all 4 cylinders remain at ~150Psi.
The Renault 16 air cleaner and Motorola alternator remain present, unlike most S1 Europa.
All the chrome work is bright and without dents.
The stock steel wheels have retained both the original hub caps and perimeter rings. A spare steel wheel is included.
Unfortunately, the latches for both the hood and engine cover were removed by the previous owner and no longer remain with the car.
The vehicle’s interior is almost 100% original, with only the carpet set being replaced.
All the original fixtures and fittings are present, including the headliner, which has a small amount of splitting.
The original front, rear and repeater lamps are all in undamaged condition.
The wiper, wash system, fans and heater are all present and working, although would benefit from a light refurbishment.
All interior electronics are original and unspoilt. The electrical fusebox was recently changed to a universal unit purely for fault finding. The original is retained with the vehicle.
Frame & Chassis:
Although there is some surface corrosion on the visible areas of the frame, this is believed to be insignificant enough to warrant removing the frame from the body for restoration, rubbing with wire wool reveals bare metal. Photographs are included with the carpets pulled back in the link below.
The chassis components appear to be in good shape with little corrosion.
The dampers have been replaced but are more than 20 years old.
