Very original Fiat 850 Spider (1972) Ex Californian car and this is backed up by the very rust free body and supporting structure. Doors, sills, bukhead, inner & outer scuttle panel, inner wings, boonet & boot are solid.
The 850 has been road registered in the UK as a Historic vehicle & is MOT'd until May 2018. (You therefore wouldnt actually need to MOT it again due to the change in MOT laws. It will be MOT Exempt as well a Tax Exempt from May 2018) This little Fiat is just coming out of hibernation after sheltering in dry storage during the winter months. The car is on the road and I will continue to use her so mileage will continue to increase slightly.
The Fiat 850 has all the original Engine and running gear making it even more special. The 903cc engine runs superbly with its weber carb which has been stripped down and rebuilt with new service items and parts. Electronic ignition has been fitted which was made specifically for the car after the distributer was sent away to make the ignition unit for it. A brand new battery and genuine Fiat alternator were fitted. I sourced an original alternator unit which was old stock still in the Fiat box and wrapping!!Gearbox works as it should, no noises or whines can be heard from the gearbox either. Clutch, brakes and handbrake work great too.
The alloy wheels which the car was imported with have been refurbished with lovely Fiat center caps and brand new Avon 175/70 R13 to give an even better ride and look to the car. These are expensive Cromodora alloy wheels that are exceptionally rare! There is a spare alloy with an old tyre in the front compartment too. The front compartmetn also has the factory jack and some tools as weel as the battery cover.
The upgraded wooden steering wheel and boss were already fitted to the Fiat before I got her, i think its a very nice touch.
All guages and switches seem to work well, with oil pressure always staying where it should. Temperature always stays where it should too. Mechanically the car is fantastic!
Bodywork as mentioned is very rust free, it has had a respray carried out a number of years ago in the original red but this still gives the car a good shine. Its not mint but very good for the age of the car and considering how original it all is. There are some small dinks and marks as expected but there isnt anything that has been hidden. I went around the car with a very low power magnet to check for filler and couldnt fine virtually any on inspection. Its a really solid car and i think anybody looking for a great investment and a really rare eye catching car would be more than impressed by her.
Seats are in really good condition and overall the cockpit is good. The dash top and surround has some cracking from the californian sun but it hasnt bothered me. There are second hand dash tops and surrounds available or alternativly this could be recovered in time.
The soft top wasnt used a lot in California, i was told the old guy removed it as he used to sit his dog in the back under the lift up cover and drive the little Fiat to the shops each week (what a great picure that would have been to see!). It was fitted when i bought her and is water tight. Its not a brand new soft top so please dont expect it to be amazing. It's rarely put up as the joy in driving this car is having the roof and windows down.
I hope the pictures show enough but if you need any more information or would like further photos then please let me know.
I think you would struggle to find such a mechanically sound and original Fiat 850 Spider in the UK.
Many thanks for looking. Only selling to make way for another project I have in mind.
Sensible offers always invited.
