1930 Rolls Royce Phantom II 'Ascot Tourer' by Brewsters SOLD
1929 saw the introduction of the Rolls-Royce Phantom II. There were a host of improvements over the Phantom I, the most important of which concerned the chassis layout. The separate gearbox torque-tube drive and cantilever rear springing gave way to the PII's integral engine-gearbox unit, Hotchkiss drive, hypoid-bevel rear axle and semi-elliptic rear springs. The chassis was constructed with channel steel side-members and tubular cross-members. Fit and finish were, as to be expected, to the highest standards. Engine dimensions remained the same as the Phantom I, the overhead valve arrangement was retained although a new cylinder head designed, with intake and exhaust manifolds on opposite sides, yielding greater performance.
Recipient of a major restoration; this 1930 Rolls Royce Phantom II has had major works undertaken to trim, body and mechanics. The body is an Ascot Style Tourer constructed from aluminum in the 1980s and finished to a beautiful standard. The paintwork - finished in two-tone Royal Garnet and Bordeaux paintwork - is recent and is in fantastic order throughout being finished in two shades of red.
To the interior is brand new burgundy Leather complimented by maroon carpets. The leather work has been completed to a very high standard and is a credit to the trimmer. A highly polished Burr Walnut dash board is fitted which retains the cars original compliment of instruments. The body is spacious in the extreme with ample room up front for those of less than svelte built.
The hood is also new and is of pale beige giving the car a very Gatsbyesque appearance. It is a car that garners attention wherever it goes and makes quite a statement. A wind out second windscreen screen emerges from the center cowl affording protection to the rear passengers. A useful storage trunk is fitted to the rear.
The engine has been fully rebuilt and has recently been to Marque Specialists the Priory Vintage Car Company for a full tune up, thus the 1930 Rolls Royce Phantom II is in perfect running order. It is powerful, quiet and as a Rolls Royce Phantom ought to be. It starts readily, exhibits good oil pressure & runs cool.
