1968 Triumph TR5, UK Car, Body off resto, Fast-road Spec, History For Sale
RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner: Triumph TR5 ‘JTK 799G’
An opportunity to acquire a rare (1 of 1161 RHD cars produced), Home Market RHD TR5 PI. A particularly attractive example in Royal Blue paint with Shadow Blue trim, fitted with the original hard-top and light-alloy roof panel and in ‘fast road’ spec (170bhp!) having been upgraded with Webcon digital fuel injection. A lengthy and detailed history file and full body-off rebuild onto a new chassis a few years ago complete this rare and attractive TR5 PI package.
First Reg: 27 August 1968
Chassis No: CP20760
Eng No: CP2261E
Paint: Royal Blue (56) and Shadow Blue trim (27)
4-speed manual with OD gearbox
Triumph Service Training Notes Lucas Petrol Injection booklet (TR 5, TR 6, 2.5 Saloon and Estate)
Triumph ‘Check Cards’ and ‘Check Sheets’ to assist in fault diagnosis
Extensive folder of previous MoT test certificates, showing mileage back to 8,366 in March 1973 and extensive invoicing and related ownership documentation since 1972 (Mr Allen, Harley St, London!).
She has been in long-term ownership (since July 2005) and was restored by the owner’s own professional body and paintshop. There are plenty of invoices for the rebuild, which is understood to have included a new chassis and several factory-original panels.
In 2016, conversion was carried out by Webcon to their ‘Alpha Pro5’ digital fuel injection standard including full ignition mapping (no distributor). Indeed, the TR was used as a Webcon development and show car. Allied to this ‘fast road’ spec performance is the original 4-speed gearbox and OD. A recent rolling road report shows she is producing no less than 170bhp (140bhp at the wheels) and 180lbft of torque!
Little used recently (circa 100 miles/year) whilst in a small collection, she now has a fresh MoT test, has been serviced and checked over and rolling-road tuned. She is very strong but also smooth on the road, nice slick gearchange and good OD – quick but not jerky, positive steering and good brakes.
So, no shortage of history and performance, but allied with these is a still as-new chassis, very good body and paintwork with a high standard of panel alignment and gaps, good cockpit trim and dash, a newly-fitted stainless steel bumper kit, original light-alloy hard top and Minilite wheels shod with expensive Avon ZZ tyres.
A stunning, Home Market TR5 in Royal Blue and with history to match. Not cheap, but what would it cost to produce?
