1970 Austin® Champ *MOT and Tax Exempt* (CPL) RESERVED SOLD

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Austin® Champ in Deep Bronze Green (1970).

B40 Rolls-Royce Petrol Engine (3L). Tax Exempt. MOT Exempt. Retractable Canvas Hood.

We are delighted to present for sale this smart Champ, with Sand Canvas Hood. The Austin® Champ was built to last, and they were used post war by the territorial army. In our opinion they were made to a much higher technical specification than the Land Rover® we have all come to love, and this makes a difference. The suspension on a Champ is superb, and speed bumps can be tackled without deceleration. The controls are all light..... no heavy pedals or steering wheel, so they feel lovely to drive. Then there's that lovely Rolls Royce engine and sturdy auxiliary components designed for reliability in battle..... they have good power and sound lovely out on the road.

In addition to the good drive, the easy drop roof and screen are great for summer showers.... the windscreen both tilts and opens so it can be run with wind in the face, or, if the weather looks threatening, with the front window open but up, so the roof can be easily closed. The lack of doors is not really noticed and it feels liberating when bombing along! Fuel economy is not too terrible in comparison to the Land Rover® Series, although no one buys one of these for the purposes of fuel saving!

Out on the road, this champ is a lovely thing - they can go as fast forward as they can in reverse, and the noise harks back to the sound of Britain in the Wartime! These are still very much analog machines and so easy to maintain, but we've rarely had the chance to work on them, as they prove to be very reliable.

If you are looking for a four wheel drive, perhaps with that jeep look, but you want English not American - something to enjoy in the summer with low maintenance and a sound investment, then we suggest you join the elite club to which we also belong - a Champ owner!

It is very rare that we have two champs in stock (at the time of writing), and as such this is why the ads are similar - they are virtually identical, and we think they are great fun, as well as having the classic military look.

This 1926 Austin 7 Chummy tourer has a lovely patina and character. Structurally the car is good, though the paintwork could be improved.
