ABP 643A was manufactured in 1963 and is the desirable pull handle model. The car is finished in Tartan Red with Black leather and Red piped trim with chrome wire wheels. MOT’s dating back to 1996 show the MG has been in regular use but annually has covered very low mileage. The most recent owner bought the MG in 2015 and since then has spent thousands of pounds ensuring the car is in excellent, strong mechanical order.
Over the past two years the MG has had a new radiator and carburettors rebuilt with new needles, piston springs and dampers, heat shield, overflow pipes, filter and braided lines. Further work included a new distributor, plug leads and coil. The front brakes were fully rebuilt with new discs, calipers, ‘Green Stuff' pads and flexi hoses. The master cylinder was re-conditioned, new copper pipes fitted and the pedal box rebuilt. The gearbox was removed and taken to MGOC for rebuild and the clutch replaced and fitted with a new roller thrust bearing. The engine was also removed and rebuilt. It was treated to a crankshaft re-grind with new bearing shells and thrust washers, re-bored and fitted with new pistons, cam bearings, new oil pump, relief valve and timing chain and tensioner. The head was converted to unleaded with new valves and guides, rockers re-bushed with a new shaft and the whole block was acid cleaned and oilways rodded out. The engine was built up with all new gaskets and seals and re-installed with new mountings, new water pump, starter ring and the flywheel refaced. The engine was painted and detailed, the starter motor replaced and prior to re-fit whilst the engine removed, the engine bay was prepared, painted and detailed. The wiring loom was also replaced and some further cosmetic improvements carried out to include new headlamp rings, new air-intake and mesh, door seal retainers and door capping finishers.
The MG engine build was completed not long before arriving with us and is now running in. The car drives superbly with a fabulous, as new engine and gearbox and the MG also brakes and handles superbly. ABP 643A is an excellent driver and a perfectly usable classic. The MG also presents well with a structurally excellent bodyshell, paintwork is clean and presentable and the chrome work lovely. The hood is in very good order, the boot area smart and the engine bay has been prepared to a superb standard. The interior retains lovely aged leather seats, smart carpets, door cards and dashboard. Overall this is a nicely presented example in excellent mechanical order having had a small fortune spent over the past two years.
