1965 MG 1100 - MEGA RARE, PRETTY. 1098cc TWIN CARB! For Sale
So when did you last see an MG 1100? You may see the Morris and Austin variants around often enough and then there's the Wolseley and the Vanden Plas. You may also see the occasional Riley Kestrel. But an MG? Hardly ever!
BMC loved their badge-engineering capers and the sporty MG 1100 (and later the 1300) was aimed at the family man who wished to show that he had a bit of style; a bit of panache. For him the basic Morris or Austin was not enough. So, he would opt for this. An MG sports saloon with a 1098cc twin-carb unit, totally different front end, up-market interior and - probably most importantly for him - MG badges!
The MG was a cute and compact version of the world famous 1100/1300 and here is mine offered for sale. She's a bonny little thing in Snowberry White with red interior and she drives superbly with plenty of oomph. The engine was removed earlier this year when it had a full decoke, new clutch, and all gaskets and oil seals replaced. The brakes were overhauled also with new wheel cylinders and shoes, front brake pads and master cylinder. She's a great driver and really looks the part under the bonnet.
She can be used just as she is or improved as you go along. Yes, she has had work over the years and predictably there will have been welding and repair work to the underside. She looks to be strong however. I would say that she must have had new front wings at some stage and you can see from the photos that there's two areas of red oxide primer beneath the lights. These areas also appear strong and there's plenty of Snowberry White paint supplied with the car - along with other bits and pieces - and so you can sort those cosmetic areas out yourself. There's a few more small imperfections such as door bottoms, but everything looks to be on the easy side.I have neither the time nor the inclination these days to tittle about with small bits and pieces. It would only result in the prices of my classics going up and I prefer to avoid that at all costs. If, of course, you don't want a rare bird such as this with some DIY work here and there, then that's fine. There's probably one out there somewhere for more than twice the price. I get my enjoyment of finding these old girls and, wherever possible, simply re-homing them. This is such an example. She is currently on SORN and in a few weeks' time will no longer need an MoT under new Government legislation.
Lifting the new carpets, I note that the floor pans - all four - have been replaced with precision fabricated metal. Someone has clearly spent some time and effort here.
All my classic cars will have undergone work to some degree and doubtless they will need more in the future. This MG is 53-years-old and so please keep everything in context. Don't compare paint and body with your six-month-old SUV. These old girls are motoring antiques and need loving homes where both time and expertise can be lavished upon them. Many have seen little, if any, use in recent years and require patience and understanding. To that end, I can also supply a delivery service and so please ask for a quote.
I accept all major debit/credit cards. Thanks for reading. Martin (07595-020282).
