The 911 2.7 Coupe was essentially the Jetronic fuel-injected and impact-bumpered wearing successor to the hugely collectable 911 2.4 S and was introduced to the Porsche line-up in October 1973. So many superlatives already litter the landscape of Porsche chronicles that we needn’t afflict you with them here, but being a narrow-bodied 911 cut from the same cloth of the 60’s machines, without what some may consider the cumbersome styling of certain later Porsche’s, well, you can imagine our appetite for such a car!
Our (now rather rare) example is finished in Grand Prix White with Black leather interior and thanks to careful maintenance presents today in very good order. This is a higher-mileage car, but this is punctuated with thousands of pounds of expenditure, much of this recent, to bely it’s true mileage in both the cosmetic and mechanical condition.
The comprehensive history file evidences maintenance back to 1993 when it was subject to a full engine rebuild at 137,000 miles by TAE of Cornwall. The mileage is now 172,500 and in the subsequent period further servicing input from Maxted-Page amongst others has kept this car on song. Not least, shortly after acquisition by its current keeper, it was presented to Porsche Centre Kendal in July 2015 with a brief to go right through the car ahead of a planned European road trip. The result was more than £12,000 to replace and fit all new oil pipes, front wish bones and ball joints, new sound absorber material in engine bay, full service to engine and brake servo, gearbox and differential oil change, and two new heat exchangers at close to £1,000 each. Needless to say, some 2,000+ miles around Europe were completed without incident!
There’s an awful lot that looks very very right about these mid-Seventies 911’s and with styling features like the ooh-soo-period ‘cookie-cutter’ wheels the future of these models looks secure.
Offered with long MOT, the aforementioned generous history file and in very good order throughout, what’s not to like?
