I have decided to reduce the price to £300 or take a reasonable offer as the water pump needs replacing. Also - the car has suffered criminal damage - offside front and rear door have been dented on two separate days in the same manner although not terribly badly damaged but still very frustrating as you can probably imagine.
1991 XM 2.0 Prestige Auto for sale. I have posted approx. 220 pictures for you to pore over at leisure in a 'Flickr album' on Public view. See how and where at the bottom of this advert.
I was attracted to the car as it had a low mileage, a nice leather interior and the MOT history is pretty impressive. No fails for rot and rust, just lots of passes. Check at MOT history.gov.
They were the original owner from new, so it has just been a change of registered keepers that accounts for the previous owners. I have a signed letter to that effect. The lady was most adamant that this car has been in the same family for 26 years before being sold to the person I bought it off.
So a bit about the car. Overall it was driving really well considering it probably needs the spheres re-gassing - it's not bumpy or hard but I expect they could do with a re-gas. The car will rise to it's top position with absolutely no travel in the suspension but the selector lever/slider is stiff and won't go to the very low position - but who needs that unless you are planning to do a DS style wheel change. The car stays up in the air without sinking so i'm fairly certain the Hydraulic system is fully functional.
The steering is firm and not airy-fairy and the car pulls up swiftly and in a straight line when the brakes are applied. It corners fast and flat which is a good sign.
The engine runs smoothly and the 4 speed automatic transmission changes up and down smoothly without any nasty bumps or jerks. The cooling fan kicks in when the engine temperature rises exactly as it should do. The temperature doesn't go over 90C even when driving around in the heat as it has been for the last few days.
The Air Con doesn't blow hard or cold so I think it needs recharging. Typical stuff for a car that as been lightly used for a long time.
The interior is generally very good. The rear seats are undamaged save for a few scratches to the leather. Front seats show more wear but looks as though a large person has lurched in and out of the drivers seat too often - the upper bolster is worn but nothing too serious. I gave the seats a quick 'ready wax', the cheap stuff for shoes in a plastic squeezy container as it isn't waxy or sticky. The seats showed an immediate improvement. They could do with a bit more love and care.
The headlining is perfect and black and the door trims are all pretty near perfect. All padded with leather and all have open storage and armrests with storage inside them.
No radio fitted but the car comes with a Citroen Clarion head unit that may be suitable to put back in the car. The electrics are all working. Both front seats move forward, backward, tilt and can be raised up and down. All four electric windows are working smoothly since I cleaned the channels the glass runs up and down in. It's all curved glass in these car windows.
Then there is the condition of the bodywork. Up until very recently there was no damage to the majority of the panels and the insides of the doors and channels. The door jambs and channels around the doors including the squishy rubber and firm rubber channels are all excellent. Really shiny and clean and 99% rust free. The channels around the tailgate and the bonnet edges are really in superb condition. There is a tiny bit of rust that has been repaired and painted over (not terribly well) in the bottom corner of two doors but it's really small. The bottoms of the doors appear rust free and the drain holes are all sound. I've taken lots of pictures of these bits.
The only bad bit is the nearside lower/outer sill. It's been damaged and deformed by being rubbed against a high kerbside by the look of it. Paint rubbed off and a bit of rust. It looks a bit grubby but it doesn't seem to be bad damage. It's discoloured and I think a quick rub down and a hand sprayed aerosol paint job would make it look better in no time as it is in the coated part of the lower/outer sill. See the pics. There is also one small scuff to the front wing by the Prestige badge. Very light damage to the panel. And last of all on the driver's side there is a bubble of rust where the mud flap meets the lower front wing. That's the only bit of bubbling on the whole car.
This will hopefully get you to the FLICKR album I have created.
(Highlight and copy the link to flickr.com - open a new tab - then paste it in the search bar at the top of the page - hit enter and with any luck it should take you straight to Ray CRAVEN - click the picture of the XM and you'll open the album and be able to view all 220 plus pictures).
I forgot to mention that both the rear sun-blinds are present and pull up and retract perfectly. The rear inside screen is in perfect condition also and fits snugly into the rubber surrounds inside the sides of the hatch lid so no wind or rain or snow comes in when you open the rear hatch. There are foot-mats in the front and rear with rubber over=mats in the front. I haven't dropped the spare wheel only looked at it from underneath and it is a steel wheel not an alloy. I expect the jack is inside - i'll check later at some point. There is no key-coded security or alarm system fitted. I have both keys, one is a folding one with a button. probably the remote - battery is flat. The owners handbook is present in the fuse box inside.
Hope the update on the price reduction explains everything. This is a very honest car - not an abandoned restoration or a barn find and up until the water pump broke down it waS a really lovely fun XM - it's just become a bit of a mill-stone for me at present. Please feel free to get in touch or come and take a look.
Water pump has failed/broken - hence price reduction. Buyer will need to arrange collection with a trailer.
Citroen XM 2.5TD VSX Estate Manual has been of the road for some time, the car is complete, it starts and drives under its own steam has been run up to operating temperature and there are no visible.....
May be the last XM 2.5 TD VSX to be registered in the UK. This car was driven just 7 miles since its last MOT and put into storage as I had just bought a 2.1 TD auto. Due to an old leg injury I really.....
