This might not be the fastest BMW in the world, but the 1600cc M40 engine is quite punchy and economical. Unlike the non Baur convertible, this has 5 seats as opposed to 4 and the body is stiffer, giving a better driving experience.
It is really good fun to drive and a real head turner. People just stare at it when I drive past.
What has been done to since I have owned it?:
New OEM gearbox, new gear shift linkage, new cambelt, cam belt tensioners and water pump, new thermostat, radiator. Rubber and metal brake lines replaced, new rear brake cylinders, new full exhaust system and rear heat shields, all bushes under the car that needed replacing have been done, all fluids replaced ie engine oil, coolant, transmission oil, differential oil
The body was already in reasonable condition, but a couple of rust spots have been stripped to bare metal and re-sprayed.
The underside of the car is surprising good for a car of this age as it has been under sealed from new.
The drivers door lock has been rebuilt using OEM parts.
The seats have all been professionally reupholstered in black by Mark at Car Interior Trim in Hinckley. He usually makes seats for high end vintage cars such as Bentley, Rolls Royce and the like. They look amazing!
The carpets have been wet cleaned.
The dash has no cracks with the benefit of an MP3 stereo and new electric aerial.
New OEM hand brake grip and new OEM gear knob.
The rear section of the roof has been replaced at some point and is tight as a drum. The 'targa' removable section has been recovered in the same material as the rear section, with the headlining being replaced as well. There are no leaks, even when being jet washed.
There are lots of other smaller jobs that have been done and I have a pile of receipts to prove it. Lots of money spent and many hours of work have been put into this car.
I have more pictures of the car including the underside and the installation of the engine components, please ask if you want to see these. If you bring me a memory stick, I will copy these for you.
