Here we have a October 1968 Triumph TR5 in arguably the best colour Signal Red (32) with Black interior (11).
Having had 3 previous owners, the current custodian purchased the car in 2012 and carried out a full restoration of the vehicle.
The engine was fully rebuilt with a balanced crank assembly, the gearbox (overdrive) and diff units were built by Pete Cox. The bodyshell was professionally prepared and painted.
The suspension was fully rebuilt using new parts where necessary, the same for the braking system.
The interior is all new, wool carpet set with a new trim kit is fitted. The seats have been re-trimmed in leather. It is fitted with a replacement wood dashboard, all instruments have been cleaned/overhauled. A wood rimmed steering wheel is presently fitted along with a wooden gear knob. A new wiring loom was fitted to the vehicle. Fitted with inertia reel seat belts.
A Distributor Doctor distributor is fitted along with KV85 Magnecor leads. Triumph Tune alloy rocker cover finishes off the engine bay appearance.
This TR5 benefits from having the very desirable ‘surrey top’ fitted, original glass in the rear.
The bumpers were re-chromed
Fresh 72 spoke painted wire wheels with Michelin XAS 165/15 tyres make the road holding and driving experience a joy.
The TR5 was completed and put back on the road in May 2014 to be enjoyed on dry days. It has covered appox 5500 miles since 2014 with no drama’s.
On the road, this TR5 is a delight to drive. No big wheels, no modified engine, no big exhaust etc, just a lovely standard specification TR5. A long with a large history folder with the vehicle including all the previous owners, receipts from TR Enterprises, Moss, Rimmers, TR Shop etc etc.
The current owner also kept a diary of all the work done and when, a very nice personal touch.. If you can read his handwriting!
This TR5 is not a concours vehicle but a very good example of a home restoration carried out by TR Register members who between them have built several examples of the marque.
