This beautifully presented BRA CX3 three wheeler draws its inspiration from the classic 1930s barrel backed Morgan Super Sports.
The car is built around a spaceframe chassis with fabricated double wishbones carrying the front suspension provided by coil spring damper units which are adjustable for camber, ride height and damping. The spaceframe is clad in aluminium sheet, the bonnet is also aluminium while the scuttle, tail section and radiator cowl are glassfibre.
The trike is powered by the proven Honda CX500 8 valve water cooled V-twin engine with 5 speed gearbox and shaft drive to the rear wheel which uses the Honda swinging arm and twin coil spring damper units.
Steering is courtesy of a Ford Escort rack and pinion system which provides excellent feel and weight and the pedal box is fully adjustable and easily reached from under the louvred aluminium bonnet.
With an all up weight of less than 450kg there is plenty of performance while over 50mpg is achievable.
Inside the cockpit there is plenty of room for a driver and passenger each of 6 foot plus.
This car is unusually fitted with 19 inch spoked front wheels with Akront rims which with the Brooklands aero screens really look the part and give it a much more vintage feel in keeping with its Morgan inspiration.
The BRA project was latterly taken on by Arthur Rayner’s Aero Cycles company and this particular example was built by them in 2010. It is in fact the only one built by Aero Cycles with the Honda engine as all subsequent cars have been Moto Guzzi powered. The BRA design was substantially improved upon with a deeper chassis, relocated steering rack, redesigned suspension pick up points, alloy uprights and calipers, bucket seats and Aero’s own design of brake disc.
This is therefore an unique example. It has had just the one owner since it was built and has covered only a minimal mileage. It is correctly registered as an Aero Cycle Car and comes with its original bill of sale, VOSA certification, MoT history, Honda workshop manuals and sundry bills.
This is a superior example of the genre and worthy of closer inspection. It will provide huge amounts of fun for a modest outlay and low running costs.
As always we will happily consider taking a classic vehicle in part exchange.
