Ford Avo Owners Club

PO Box 100, Castleford, West Yorks, WF10 3YU

The Ford A.V.O Owners Club was formed at the end of 1980 with the objective of bringing together owners of the special range of vehicles produced from 1968 to 1975 by Ford Motor Company’s "Advanced Vehicle Operations" (A.V.O). These are the Twin Cam, RS1600, MEXICO and RS2000 versions of the MK1 Escort, together with the RS3100 Capri. Each of these Five models is represented by a Club Registrar who is able to provide knowledge and personal experience of the car to club members. In 2010 after much thought, the Escort 1300E was given full member status in recognition of the models part in the history of the AVO plant. While it may not have been built on the AVO merry-go-round, the first 5000 cars were assembled at the site and were instrumental in keeping the AVO plant financially viable.

In addition to having a quality bi-monthly magazine, we also have a lively Internet Website at www.avoclub.com. If required, the Club is able to provide a written appraisal and valuation of member’s vehicles for insurance purposes. This is usually arranged via the Registrar for the Model in question.

The Club’s spares service has grown considerably over the years and now has a wide range of new and used spares available for Members. The Club has also commissioned the remanufacture of a number parts where they are no longer available from other suppliers.

The Club also has an extensive events calendar for club members to participate in, whatever the condition of their vehicle from everyday runabout to concours standard, on both a local and national level. The Club is affiliated to the Motor Sports Association and the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs. We hold a number of outdoor events during the year, as well as attending most of the major Classic Car Shows.

The Club’s major event of the year is its National Day held every year on the 3rd Sunday in June at Stanford Hall near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. The Club Spares Roadshow attends with the full range of spares available plus specialist Traders attend with all their wares. We also hold our Annual Concours d’Elegance competition during National Day. Unlike most other Classic Car Clubs, the whole event is paid for out of Club funds. There is no charge to Members who attend other than the normal admission fee to the grounds of Stanford Hall.

The Club currently has around 550 members. Although the majority of members live in the British Isles, there are overseas members in most European countries, The Far East, Australia, New Zealand and USA. Overseas Members are particularly welcome.
