Suzuki SC100 Enthusiasts Club

The History of the Club

The Suzuki sc100 Owners Club, originally formed by Gerald Cox in the early 1990's, attracted a modest number of people to it's ranks before Gerald had to give up due to ill health. The running of the Club was then taken over by a club member until events took a new turn in 1994.

In June 1994 several members of the Owners Club decided to form their own group under the name "Suzuki sc100 Enthusiasts Club". The reason for this move was the lack of response from the Owners Club to support shows and events and the fact that we had had an approach from the Bromley Pageant of Motoring to allow us a stand at this prestigious event. Eight cars were in attendance (something not now possible due to the pressure of space and all clubs being limited to only three cars per stand), and many favourable comments were passed on them by all that visited us.

Soon after this, the Owners Club folded and was incorporated into the Enthusiasts Club. Membership steadily rose to around the hundred mark and has stabilised at about that level ever since. Although there are estimated to be in the order of about 300 vehicles left in the UK, out of the original 4696 (see Car History), with several members owning two or even more, the number of a hundred is thought to be quite respectable. Of course, we are not limited just to the UK, as we have several members in Holland (who have their own club) and members in New Zealand, Japan, Germany, Argentina and Australia.

The Club is currently chaired by Tony Brown, with Tim Smith as Vice Chairman. Club Secretary is Tim's partner Samantha Brown and Treasurer is Tony's wife Susan. The regions are represented by Andrew Spence in Northern Ireland, Steve McKee and Sandra in Scotland and Northern England, John Starkey in the Midlands, and finally Rob Groot in Holland.

The Club is able to offer it's members new and used spares at discounted rates, agreed value insurance schemes, advice on restoration and maintenance, service tips and how to avoid buying the wrong car for too much money. A quarterly newsletter, The RAscAL, allows members to hear about others experiences, tips and car shows.

The year 2000 was particularly special to the sc100 or Whizzkid (see Car History), as it had been 21 years since the car was first imported. To celebrate this event, Club members joined Club organisers in a round Britain reliability run, taking in Lands End and John O' Groats, for which money was raised for the children's mobility charity "WHIZZ-KIDZ". See The sc100 round Britain reliability run for further information. The Club is continuing to organise get-togethers every year, for which we aim to meet as many members as possible in their cars whatever the condition, enthusiasm is more important. The events can be seen on our Events page.
