Five Must-Have Storage Solutions

The problem with having an old car is that you invariably end up collecting lots of parts, lots of tools and lots of other classic car associated paraphernalia, but we seldom acquire more space in which to house all these things. That’s why you need to play things smart and capitalise on the space you have. Handily, there are myriad products out there that can help you in your pursuit to be as organised as possible. We’ve rounded up five of our favourite, go-to space savers for you here. May your garage be neat and orderly!

1) Wheel Tree

It’s a tree, but for your spare wheels. A lot of us have another set of wheels, be that because we have winter and summer rubber, or perhaps it’s because we have a set of racy tyres for track days and hill climbs. Whatever the reason, the fact remains that while it saves space to stack them atop each other, there is no escaping the fact it’s bad for the rubber. This wheel tree is fitted with wide shims that the metal wheels sit on. This way, the tyres aren’t stacked on top of each other. It stops the tyres getting flat spots, it stops the cold from getting to them, and it stops the tyres from sweating if it gets too warm. It takes up no more space than normal stacking, but it is so much better for your rubber.

2) Tool Rack

This garage/tool racking from VonHaus is a must-have for any garage. The plastic backing board is affixed to your wall securely with screws. Once that’s up, you then use the supplied hooks and fixings to best organise your tools, and as we all know, there is nothing more pleasing than organised tools. For less than twenty five quid you can have all your tools on hand and ready to go. No more searching for the 10mm spanner, no more wondering where the big hammer has gone. You’ll have it all here to hand and ready to go. Furthermore, this is also a great way to avoid losing tools, as you’ll quickly be able to tell if anything is missing.

3) Tool Trolley

There’s nothing more annoying than starting a job, only to have to stop nine times to get another tool. To avoid this, you need a tool trolley like this one from Sealey. Made from sturdy gauge steel, this four-wheeled wonder is the perfect way of making your tools mobile. So if your car is out on the driveway and you need to take the workshop to it, you can with this. Just load it up and have everything on hand. No more running back and forth, no more carrying heavy tools all the way from the shed at the bottom of the garden out to the driveway at the front of the house. Work smart, not hard.

4) Magnetic Tray

Never lose a single nut or bolt again with this handy magnetic tray. The last thing anyone wants is to be working on a car, only to find the nuts and bolts you need to finish a job have gone walkabouts. That’s a thing of the past with this handy tray, as the magnetic nature of it means nothing can go walkies ever again. The base is coated in rubber so it can be mounted to any metal surface without fear of damaging it. Furthermore, it has a plastic extending section that will keep hold of any non-metallic items. Perfect.

5) Car Skates

Moving a car around that doesn’t run can be a right pain, in fact it can be damn near impossible sometimes. That’s why these car skates from Dirty Pro tools are well worth having. Get these under you wheels and any car becomes a breeze to move. Of course, you need a smooth and clear workshop floor. They can take up to 450kg each, which means most project cars should be fine on these babies. Never be stuck again.
