So Fresh and So Clean – Car Interior Cleaning Kit

You might think that the mechanical bits, the engine and the brakes and the suspension for example, are the most hardworking parts of your classic. And work hard they do, but they’re not the only parts that have to graft to earn their keep. The interior is not something you think of as hardworking, but it is. Every time you fire up the car, the interior is put to use. It keeps you comfortable, it keeps you warm and if you have a stereo, it keeps you entertained. The least we can do, then, is keep it clean and fresh.

Frankly, the mentality behind those people who drive cars that are full of rubbish is lost on us, as we are sure it is lost on you. We can’t think of anything worse than a dirty interior, but at the same time, the actual act of cleaning it isn’t something we particularly relish either. Happily though, there are all kinds of cleaning aids out there to help us keep our car’s interior trim looking beautiful.

1) Autoglym Collection

When it comes to cleaning your interior there are few names you can trust as much as Autoglym. The British company has been making cleaning kit for decades, so they know what’s what. This little collection kit features upholstery shampoo, rubber and vinyl care as well as glass cleaner, so that’s all the bases covered. The glass cleaner does what it says on the tin, but without mess or streaks. The upholstery cleaner will lift even the most stubborn of stains, while the rubber and vinyl care is perfect for door shuts, gear gaiters and dash plastics. The perfect interior cleaning trifecta.

2) Colourlock Brush

If you’re going to be cleaning seats and carpet and other fabric areas of your car’s innards, you’re going to need the right brush to do it. Don’t just grab any old brush. The fabrics within your car are delicate and need attention from the right tools, not a hamfisted srub with a brush too stiff. You need this Colourlock brush, which is designed to be abrasive, but also have enough flex and ‘give’ so as to ensure it won’t damage your cloth, leather or even alcantara. And all for the price of a couple of pints. Get one. It makes sense.

3) Black & Decker 12V Vacuum

There’s little more frustrating than clattering through the house and taking the vacuum outside. What you need is a dedicated car vacuum, and there are many available. However, a lot of them look rubbish and probably have the sucking power of a hamster huffing on a straw. What you need is a name you can trust, like Black & Decker. This handy little vacuum is swimming in a sea of thousands of positive reviews, it comes with plenty of attachments to get into every vehicular crevice, and it all folds up into an easy to store size. Perfect!

4) Boot Organiser

There is no point in tidying and cleaning the inside of your car only to then fill it back up with myriad loose items that will happily roll around the boot. What you need is a sturdy organiser in which you can keep your boot-based detritus as well as all your interior cleaning kit – you never know when you’ll need it! This Drive Auto item fits the bill perfectly. It’s solidly built, it has separate compartments and has convenient carry handles should you need to remove it ahead of a particularly spendy trip to the supermarket.

5) Car Window Cleaning Kit

The side windows are fine, but trying to clean the front and rear windscreens can be a headache, resulting in having to contort or bend one’s arms into shapes they’re not entirely comfortable. Save yourself the pain and buy this kit for a tenner. You get an extension arm allowing you to get at the windows with ease, you get microfibre heads for maximum cleaning efficiency and you also get a little bottle into which you can decant your window cleaning solution of choice, giving you a car-sized bottle. And all for ten quid.
