Dispatched from the factory in 4th Dec. 1951 to Mr R Way not much is known about the early history of this series C Rapide until it was purchased in an unrestored state from Millars Motors Ltd of Mitcham, Surrey in 1971 and exported to New Zealand. This immaculate series B Rapide was subject to a complete rebuild by a marque specialist in 2015 and UK road registered. Built in 1949 and bearing the HRD logos it was one of the last batch of bikes to be fitted with Brampton front forks but has also been upgraded to 12v electronics with a electric .....
The factory records show this genuine Black Shadow was completed 19th July 1951 and
dispatched to Whittaker's of Blackpool where it was registered FFR 69 on the 24th ’51.
These records also show that the upper frame member (UFM) was incorrectly stamped and recored as 9224 it was then corrected .....
This unique outfit has a VOC authenticated white shadow engine, one of only 17 built, and a history set out by VOC. It is very nicely restored and had a full engine rebuild by the owner before last with a listing of parts renewed. Largely stainless fasteners replace originals, with very good chrome .....
